Farrier Competition & Clinic – Feb 7-8, 2025

Join us for an exciting weekend of learning and competition at Amherst Equestrian Center, Amherst, MA

Clinic Highlight:

We’re thrilled to host Tim Byrne, a former AFA treasurer, who will share insights on managing money in the farrier industry —don’t miss this valuable session!


Competition Details:

Classes for Novice, Intermediate, Open, and Two-Man Teams

Specific shoeing challenges include:

Novice Class 1:

pair of fronts, plain stamp, 6 nails, 12" 3/8-3/4, no clip

Novice Class 2: 

pair of hinds, 11.5", 6 nails, 3/8-3/4, no clip

Novice Live Shoeing:

appropriate keg shoe toe clipped, front or hind, to fit a pattern, specimen 11" 3/8-3/4 hind, 6 nails, fullered lateral heel (fullered from heel nail to end of lateral heel).  

Intermediate Class 1:

pair of fronts, 3/4 fullered, 3/8-3/4, 12" 6 nails toe clipped

Intermediate Class2:

pair of hinds, 3/4 fullered, 3/8-3/4, 11.5" 6 nails 1/4 clipped

Intermediate Live Shoeing:

on the foot, plain stamp, appropriate stock, toe clip front, 1/4 clip hind. specimen 11" 3/8 x 1 hind 3/4 fullered side clipped

Open Class 1:

pair of hinds 3/8x1, 11", feather fullered, 1/4 clip, 6 nails, punched stud holes 5/16 

Open Class 2:

pair of straight bars, 15", 3/8 x 1, 3/4 fullered, rolled toe, 6 nails

Open Live shoeing:

Feather fullered, appropriate stock, toe clipped front,1/4 clipped hind. specimen, heart bar with straight bar, 18" 3/8x 1, 6 nails, rolled toe, feather fullered. 

Two Man Class 1:

Plain stamp front, massolit toe clip, app stock. Hind fully fullered 1/4 clip hammer drawn, app stock.  

Two Man Champ round:

Front- fully fullered, hammer drawn toe clip, app stock. Hind - plain stamp, massolit 1/4 clips, app stock.  

All shoes will be turned in with appropriate nail. Any other questions, please feel free to text Tim at 603.765.1805.
