SEFA Winter Clinc with Doug Russo CJF AWCF

Southern New England Farrier's Association

Clinic 2023

Doug Russo, CJF, AWCF got his start in farriery doing ranch work. When he met Dick Becker in MI and became an apprentice it sparked competition and certification which remain a big part of his farrier life as an American Farrier's Association Examiner. Doug started at low State's Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center in 2015 and built a very successful therapeutic farriery practice utilizing mostly traditional farriery and forging based solutions. In this program he also teaches the "Farrier Appreciation Rotation" for the veterinary school. He became chair of the AFA's research committee in 2016 and has built a grants system for farriers that has produced 5 studies to date. Doug has also given many clinics and lectures around the country and has judged a few contests.

SNEFA is excited to host Doug for a two day clinic. The first day we will review dynamic balance and use radiographs and evaluation to illustrate the point. His work in this area has demonstrated sounder horses at lowa State. The second day will be devoted to forging and construction of some non-commercial shoes he has found helpful in regards to dynamic balance and his practice.
